After tasting room sales, email marketing is most likely going to be your number one revenue driver in direct to consumer sales. No doubt you already have an effective email marketing plan in place. That being said, email marketing becomes even MORE effective when you gather more email addresses.
Without a good list of email addresses to send content to, your email marketing strategy is pretty much useless. That's why we came up with some tips to help you out.
Here are 10 ways you can implement to gather more email addresses:
- Incentivize tasting room staff. Offer a dollar for every email address your tasting room staff gets, hold a competition for the most email addresses collected each week. Make it creative and FUN.
- Have a give away in the tasting room. Let your guests know that you have a weekly tasting room giveaway of one of your nicer bottles of wine if they enter their card or email address into the drawing.
- Have website pop up. Have a pop-up on your website that offers something of value to web visitors in exchange for their email address. Try this idea.
- Promote on social media. Use your social media channels to promote email sign ups. Make sure you are offering something of value in return.
- Have physical cards in the tasting room. Use cute clipboards with branded cards to where people can write in their email address. You don't have to use "cute clipboards" but come up with some clever way of gathering email addresses. Go one step further and ask other questions as well- how'd you hear about us? What are you favorite types of wine? (This can be helpful for further marketing initiatives.)
- Include an entry space on the receipt. Include a line on physical receipts to have customers fill out their email addresses as well as sign the receipt.
- Get rid of printed receipts all together. Better yet- don't give out receipts. Email receipts. That way you can gather everyone receipt. You're also going green getting rid of all that paper. Good for you. ;)
- Do a co-marketing campaign. Having an event at a restaurant in town? Ask them if you can both do a co-marketing email campaign in which you ask for sign ups for the event. You can both send to your lists and then share the sign up list after the event.
- Gather at in person events. Make sure when you are at an event you have a place to collect email addresses. Whether it's a business card bowl or a clipboard with a piece of paper. Events are a great way to get in front of an audience you've never engaged with before- don't let them get away.
- Create good email content. Most importantly, always create good emails. As long as the emails you send are super valuable, people will share with their friends. Friends who may then be intrigued to sign up for your content.
